A new attraction featuring a beloved children’s book character has opened at a long-running Sunshine Coast tourism venture.

Zog, A Forest Adventure has opened at the Ginger Factory in Yandina, hot on the bushy tail of the Gruffalo Trail, which came to an end in January after receiving about 150,000 visitors.

The augmented reality experience brings to life the world of Zog, the much-loved dragon from the children’s book by the same name.

“We are always looking for ways to push the boundaries for our visitors in terms of engagement and entertainment,” Ginger Factory tourism manager Brenda Bailey said.

“When the Gruffalo Trail opened in September 2021, we hoped it would run for a year. We couldn’t have predicted how much our guests would respond to the experience and are so proud that the Gruffalo Trail was such a huge hit for over three years.”

The much-loved book character features in an AR experience.

Visitors can download the Zog, A Forest Adventure app and immerse themselves in Zog’s Dragon School and interact with Zog and his friends Princess Pearl, Sir Gadabout and Madam Dragon as they learn to roar, fly and breathe fire.

Using the app, visitors are able to take photos and videos of themselves with all the characters at five markers along the outdoor trail that winds through the tropical gardens of the Ginger Factory.

Based on the 2010 book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, the app was created by UK-based Magic Light Pictures.

The Ginger Factory offers rides, tours, a retail precinct and cafe. Entry is free and it’s open seven days year round. Click here for more information.
