A vast hinterland property with a “spectacular” waterfall is set for auction.

No.56 Hooper Road – a large estate at North Maleny – is poised to go under the hammer on February 10.

It presents a rare opportunity for someone to buy their own slice of paradise on the ridgeline, complete with an estimated 40m waterfall.

RE/MAX Hinterland director and owner Mark Clayton said the new owner would relish the wild and remarkable terrain.

“It’s someone’s Jurassic Park there, that’s for sure,” he said.

“There’s 48 acres of sublime old-growth rainforest, valleys and hoop pine.”

A 1km section of Falls Creek meanders through the landscape, with swimming holes, vantage points and the centrepiece waterfall, which dominates the scenery,

“The waterfall is spectacular,” he said.

“It runs all year round and is looking really lovely at the moment.”

Mr Clayton said prospective buyers who took part in inspections were wowed.

“They were honestly lost for words,” he said.

“It’s one of those things that just takes your breath away.

“You know the first scene in Jurassic Park, where they fly into the valley and there’s that waterfall there, it’s like that.”

The waterfall is known by locals as Hooper Falls, because it is off Hooper Road, and it is one of the largest falls in the region.

It’s about six or seven times larger than the public Gardner Falls, and Mr Clayton compared it to the Kondallilla Falls in the nearby national park.

Mr Clayton also said the “babbling” Falls Creek was impressive, with its rocky bottom, swimming spots and vantage points.

There are two homes on the property, one either side of the waterfall, which have separate driveways and views.

Mr Clayton said the estate could suit someone who wanted to make the most of its natural beauty.

“We think it’s going to go to someone who might want to build something spectacular on the property to complement (the scenery),” he said.

“It will probably attract a premium buyer who might want to hold such an amazing natural resource.

“It could be for someone with a bit of creativity, time and money, who could make the swimming hole at the bottom of the waterfall more accessible.

“It’s easy to walk to the top of the waterfall … but the difficulty in enjoying the bottom swimming hole is getting there, because it’s steep country.

“There are also some beautiful vantage points that could be better utilised, with viewing decks or another house.”

Mr Clayton said the current owners – expats working in finance in Hong Kong – had held the property since 2006 but were ready to sell.

“They are now very much concentrated on the Darling Downs and they don’t have time to fulfil their dreams there (at North Maleny) unfortunately,” he said.

Similar-size properties in the area have sold for more than $3.5 million in recent times, but they don’t come with a giant waterfall.
