A 72-year-old man has died following a fatal traffic incident that occurred in Chevallum.

Initial investigations indicate at approximately 3.30pm, the man was crossing the Bruce Highway when he was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lanes.

The 72-year-old Little Mountain man sustained critical injuries and died at the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, a 93-year-old man, was not physically injured and is assisting police with inquiries.

Any witnesses or anyone with dashcam vision is urged to contact police.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating.
