Ongoing fires combined with dangerous weather conditions have forced the temporary closure of Mount Beerwah in the Glass House Mountains National Park.
Senior Ranger Donna Haslam said the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) had closed Mount Beerwah immediately, and people were urged to observe the closure for safety reasons.
“Over the past 10 days, Queensland Fire and Emergency Service have responded to two bushfires in the Streek Road area, with QPWS rangers and HQ Plantations assisting in containing the fires,” Ms Haslam said.
“Our number one priority is the safety of our staff and visitors to our national parks and protected areas, and we are concerned that these fires may reignite and put lives at risk.
“That’s why we have temporarily closed Mount Beerwah, and the closure will remain in place until the fire danger passes.
“QPWS crews remain on standby to respond to any further bushfires, and we ask residents and visitors to be extremely careful with fire during these dangerous weather conditions.
“There is currently a fire ban in the region, and fires are not permitted at any time in the Glass House Mountains National Park.
“Rangers will work with the QFES to determine the cause of the recent fires, which are not the result of any planned burn activities.

It comes as detectives investigate the cause of four bushfires in the past two weeks, which they are treating as suspicious.
