Several major roads in the region will be closed for the biggest Sunshine Coast Marathon Festival yet.
The event, which started in 2012, has attracted more than 8000 competitors for this year’s edition, to be held from Friday to Sunday.

The main races, which include a marathon (42.2km), half-marathon (21.1km), 10km, 5km and 2km, will be held on Sunday from about 6am to 12.30pm.
Major thoroughfares at Alexandra Headland, Maroochydore, Mooloolaba and Buderim will be closed.
Organisers said the festival was a community event benefitting health, tourism and charities.
“Holding an event of this size is a major undertaking and we rely on the the goodwill of businesses and residents to make the event a success,” they said.
“To minimise disruption to those that live or work near or on the course, it is important you are aware of road closures, parking restrictions and public transport changes.”
There is a park-and-ride service ($10, kids 15 and under free) from Syd Lingard Drive, Buderim, every 15 minutes from 9am until 1pm. There is also a ParknGo Mooloolaba Central car park (paid parking), which is on the corner of Smith Street and First Avenue.
For spectators, some of the best vantage points are at the Fisherman’s Road Markets, Bradman Avenue and at aid stations.
The 2032 Olympic marathons will be held on the Sunshine Coast.
