From an Australian Crawl star to an array of Australian music royalty, the second annual Kickass Music Festival is set for a triumphant return to the Sunshine Coast.
Held at the Kenilworth Showgrounds from September 8 to 10, the music and camping festival features an impressive line-up headlined by James Reyne and his eight-piece band.
The frontman of esteemed rock band Australian Crawl, Reyne has accolades that span ARIA awards and a place in the Australian Songwriters Hall of Fame.
Joining him on the bill are the Beautiful Girls, who bring a fusion of reggae, folk and roots.
In a statement, the Beautiful Girls said they were excited to play at the Kickass Festival.
“It’s a beautiful thing to be able to get out and share some music together again. Let’s go,” they said.
Also playing are Kingswood, known for their infectious hooks and an explosive live performance; storyteller and troubadour Ash Grunwald;Â Byron Bay-based Jerome Williams;Â the 10-piece Sunny Coast Rude Boys; and Brisbane-based band Fat Picnic.
Festival manager Josh Allen said Kickass had been curated to cater to a demographic that appreciates adventure and family fun, as well as a younger crowd looking for an unforgettable experience.
“The multi-generational Kickass experience prides itself on being an adventure for anyone wanting to experience the great outdoors, immerse themselves in local culture and connect with like-minded people over some of Australia’s best talent,” he said.
“We are overjoyed to be continuing our journey and hosting our second music and camping festival. Last year was just a dip in the ocean compared to what we have planned this time around.
“We believe those who love great music and the great outdoors will absolutely love this festival and line-up.”
He said one of the most exciting aspects of the festival was the location itself.
The Kenilworth Showgrounds are surrounded by rainforests, creeks and the Mary River, perfect for camping enthusiasts.
Also on the bill is GANGgajang, with band member Buzz Bidstrup saying the band was stoked to get “out on the patio” at the Kickass Festival this year.
“The Sunshine Coast hinterland is such a beautiful part of the world and we look forward to sharing the stage with such an impressive line-up of talented artists. Bring your togs for a dip in Mary River,” he said.
