Police have charged a woman after she allegedly assaulted a security guard at Maroochydore yesterday.

It will be alleged at 11.20am the woman exited a retail store in a Horton Parade shopping centre without paying for the clothing she had in a shopping trolley.

The woman was approached by a staff member of the shop and a security officer, and allegedly assaulted the security officer.

The security officer required medical attention at the scene and was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital, where she remains in a stable condition.

Police located the woman in the car park of the shopping centre a short time later.

The 24-year-old Currimundi woman has been charged with one count each of armed robbery with violence and stealing.

She is due to appear in Maroochydore Magistrates Court today.
