A new Sunshine Coast private hospital has treated 2000 patients in its first few months of operation.
Maroochy Private Hospital, which opened in Maroochydore in June, said it had also completed 250 joint replacements by October.
Patients had travelled from as far north as Rockhampton, from western Queensland and from south of Brisbane.
The hospital is operated by Fortius Hospitals and provides orthopaedics, neurosurgery, ophthalmology and plastic surgery.
Knee replacement patient Michael Sellers was the hospital’s 250th surgery, which was performed by professor Daevyd Rodda, group founder of Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group, which operates from the hospital.
“This is my second knee replacement, so I’m talking from experience,” Mr Sellers said.
“All the staff made me feel welcome and the whole experience at Sunshine Coast Orthopaedic Group and Maroochy Private Hospital was well connected from start to finish.”
Professor Rodda said the group provided consultations, imaging, surgery and follow-up care through the hospital.
“Patients are seen by our team of orthopaedic surgeons, their care is connected from the first consultation and imaging right through to surgery and follow-up, and it all happens in a purpose-built hospital designed around the patient,” he said.
“Reaching 250 joint replacements is a credit to the whole team, from theatre through to the ward.”
The group said its surgeons worked with most health funds, while Professor Rodda offered no-gap hip and knee replacements through arrangements with Medibank, Bupa, HCF and nib for eligible members.
Under those arrangements, eligible patients do not pay out-of-pocket costs for Professor Rodda’s surgical fees.

Maroochy Private Hospital general manager Matt Kelly said reaching 2000 patients was significant for the hospital’s staff.
“Welcoming our 2,000th patient is a significant moment for the hospital and for everyone who has worked to bring it to life,” Mr Kelly said.
“It’s rewarding to see patients choosing to travel to Maroochydore for their care, from across the Coast and well beyond.
“It reflects the people and the patient experience we’ve built here.”
