A Sunshine Coast teenager has been charged with 62 offences following a police investigation into alleged hooning across three districts.

Police allege the 17-year-old Imbil boy was involved in and observed multiple hooning incidents across the Brisbane, Moreton and Sunshine Coast districts between April 17 and September 2.

Moreton Police arrested the boy at a Mudjimba Avenue address at Marcoola on October 1 as part of Operation Yankee Tread, which targets dangerous driving behaviour.

He was charged with 24 counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and 24 counts of driving on a learner’s licence without being properly supervised.

He also faces 12 counts of spectating a hooning event and one count each of riding a motorbike unlicensed and driving without due care and attention.

Police further allege the teenager was a passenger in a Ford Falcon conducting burnouts at Morayfield about 8.30pm on September 10 before the vehicle crashed into a fence outside a Nairn Road address.

The Ford continued driving and was allegedly abandoned on Dobson Road before the boy and another teenager left the scene in a Hyundai i30.

The Imbil boy was scheduled to face Maroochydore Childrens Court on October 7.

Further inquiries led police to a Lerner Street address at Pacific Paradise on October 1, where a 19-year-old Pacific Paradise man was arrested.

He was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle and receiving tainted property and was due to face Maroochydore Magistrates Court on October 19.

Police said 142 people had been charged with 618 offences under Operation Yankee Tread since it launched in August.

Moreton District Tactical Crime Squad officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Tom Jakes said officers from several specialist areas were working together.

“We are bringing together specialist investigators, Highway Patrol, Tactical Crime Squad and Intelligence officers to form a single, intelligence-led capability focused on disrupting prolific offenders and improving community safety,” Senior Sergeant Jakes said.

“Moreton Police are committed to stamping out this kind of activity in the district, and we encourage members of the community to continue reporting this dangerous behaviour to police to help us identify offenders and target resources to areas of concern.”

Dangerous driving can be reported to 13HOON on 134 666 or Policelink on 131 444, including online reports where photos and videos can be uploaded. Police advise people to call Triple Zero on 000 if an incident is happening at the time or involving a life-threatening situation.
