A Sunshine Coast couple abandoned most of their dinner after discovering a casual night out had delivered them a $126,143 Keno win.

The Caloundra couple won a Mega Millions 8 Spot prize in draw 355 on Friday after buying their entry at The Waves Club in Caloundra.

The wife said a bartender first alerted patrons to a significant win at the venue before asking to check the couple’s ticket.

“The young barman said, ‘Oh my God, look at what someone has won at the venue!’,” she said.

“He was so excited. He came over to us and asked, ‘Can I be the one who checks your ticket?’.

“I thought I had seven numbers, but then I looked again and saw eight numbers! I couldn’t believe it.

“I’ve never won anything. It’s so exciting and so surreal.”

The woman said the couple had almost gone elsewhere after friends invited them to another venue, but they kept their existing booking.

“It honestly feels like a sliding-doors moment, as we nearly skipped the outing altogether.

“Our friends had invited us to go elsewhere but we already had a booking at The Waves Club, so we still decided to go.

“When my husband and I realised how much we’d won, we just looked at each other in shock. We texted our friends and ordered dinner, but neither of us could finish it!”

The couple said they hoped to use the prize towards buying a home.

“This win means more to us than I can say. We’re still trying to take it all in! We’re hoping it can be used a house deposit,” the woman said.
