A hinterland community will have access to its local swimming pool for another summer after a successful trial brought public swimming back after a lengthy absence.
Pomona State School Pool began its new season on Monday with operator Ciro Ramalho signing another lease following the trial from November 2025 to May this year.
A Noosa Council spokesperson confirmed Mr Ramalho would continue operating the facility until April 2027.
The pool will again offer learn-to-swim programs, lap swimming, aqua classes and recreational swimming.
It will operate from 3pm to 7pm Monday to Thursday and from 7am to noon on Saturdays.
The new season follows the return of public swimming at the school pool last November, after the facility had been closed to the community since Easter 2019.
Noosa Council’s original announcement said the reopening followed efforts by Pomona State School and Noosa Aquatic Centre to secure an operator.
Public access to the pool had also emerged as a priority during consultation for the Pomona Place Plan.
When the trial began, council provided funding as well as safety equipment, staff training and Royal Life Saving Australia uniforms. Mr Ramalho, who had more than 20 years’ experience in the aquatics industry, took on the lease.
At the time, he welcomed the response from swimmers.
“It’s been wonderful to see families, kids and lap swimmers returning to the pool,” Mr Ramalho said.
“With council’s backing and NAC’s resources, we’re able to offer high-quality programs in a safe and welcoming environment.”
The council thanked Pomona State School, Mr Ramalho and the local community for helping secure another season.
It encouraged people to use the facility throughout the coming summer.
