A hospital connection for pedestrians and cyclists is closer to reality after levels of government committed to pay for it.
The project, to be delivered by Noosa Shire Council with matched state and local financial backing, will design and construct active transport facilities along Goodchap Street, providing residents with a safer route to Noosa Hospital.
Independent Member for Noosa Sandy Bolton welcomed confirmation of the funding and said active transport measures were crucial across the region.
“Safer walking and riding infrastructure has been a priority for our community,” she said.
“Especially vital is our footpaths and crossings for our children, elderly and anyone experiencing mobility challenges.
“This funding reflects a sustained, years-long push, not just from my office, but from residents who have raised this need again and again.”
Ms Bolton said there was more to be done across the electorate, including the Pomona to Cooran active transport link and safer connections around Peregian Beach.
Sunshine Coast News has asked Ms Bolton and Noosa Shire Council how much the project will cost, what it could include and when it could be done, and was awaiting responses.
