Works are about to begin on improving a section of a key road that leads into a tourist town.

The upgrades will commence within weeks, along a 1km stretch of Eumundi-Noosa Road, between Emu Mountain Road roundabout and Lenehans Lane at Doonan.

The route is a busy corridor, especially during peak tourist seasons, when it serves as primary access to holiday hub Noosa Heads and other coastal destinations.

The road is also a connection to popular attraction, the Eumundi Markets.

The upgrades will include: wide centre line treatment, which creates improved separation between oncoming vehicles; and road widening and resurfacing.

They will also include: audio tactile line marking; a guardrail in select locations; the removal of roadside hazards; and sealed shoulders and safer road markings for bike riders.

A Transport and Main Roads community media alert stated the project’s benefits.

“These works will ensure a safer and smoother road for all road users, including active transport users, with the wide centre line treatment and safety improvements providing increased separation between motorists travelling in opposite directions along this section of Eumundi-Noosa Road.”

“These works complement the wide centre line safety improvement works that were completed on Eumundi-Noosa Road between Lenehans Lane and Beckmans Road last year.”

Works are set to start in coming weeks and could be completed by early 2027, weather and conditions permitting.

To help minimise impacts on traffic flow, a combination of day and night works will be carried out, Sunday to Friday.

“We would like to thank the local community and motorists for their patience in advance whilst these important safety improvements are underway,” TMR stated.

This project is funded by the federal and state governments, through the jointly funded Road Safety Program.
