A woman was taken to hospital with serious injuries and a major road on the Sunshine Coast was closed on Wednesday afternoon, after a three-vehicle crash.

Emergency services responded to the crash on Beckmans Road, Tewantin at about 3.20pm.

One driver, an adult woman, sustained life-threatening chest and head injuries, and was flown to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital.

Queensland Ambulance Service said four other people were involved in the crash but all were uninjured and declined transport.

Beckmans Road was closed while emergency services respond to the incident, with traffic diverted via the Doonella Bridge, which has been temporarily reopened amid upgrade works at the request of Queensland Police to help motorists travel through the area.

Motorists were urged to avoid the area and expect delays while the crash scene was managed.
