A pole-top fire has caused a major power outage in Nambour’s town centre today, leaving businesses without electricity and forcing some to close.
The incident occurred in Anne Street about 11am, with an Energex spokesperson confirming the fire cut power to 1049 customers. By this afternoon, supply had been restored to most properties, although about 40 customers remained without power.
At 2pm, Energex crews were still on site assessing the damage and determining what replacement assets or repairs to the pole were required.
Queensland Fire Department crews attended the incident from 10.45am and departed shortly before midday. A spokesperson said Energex workers were already on site when firefighters arrived.
The outage affected businesses across the town centre.
Local MP Marty Hunt posted, around midday, that his office had been impacted by the blackout. He said Woolworths was continuing to operate using its generator, while other retailers in the area were without power.
At 1.30pm, Nambour Plaza announced on Facebook that the shopping centre was closed because of the outage and expected electricity to be restored by mid-afternoon.
Restaurant Adobo Corner also advised customers via social media at 1pm that it had closed for the day and would resume trading on Tuesday.
Energex had not indicated when power will be fully restored to the remaining affected customers.
