A 73-year-old man has died after his vehicle entered the water at Maroochydore on Sunday evening.

Emergency services were called to a shopping centre car park off Ocean Street shortly after 7.30pm following reports a vehicle had gone into the water.

Initial investigations indicate a white Mitsubishi Triton travelled into the water and became submerged.

Queensland Ambulance Service crews assessed the man in a life-threatening condition, but he was later declared deceased at the scene.

Police said investigations remain ongoing and are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has relevant footage.
