Dog owners whose pet registrations expired between June 1 and November 30 2025 are being warned to renew now or face a $333 fine.

Noosa Council Local Laws manager Clint Irwin said around 590 registration renewals from that period remain unpaid and council had been lenient in holding off issuing fines.

“We sent out renewal notices by post or email months ago,” he said.

“We know sometimes life changes – people move house and, sadly, sometimes pets pass away. If that’s happened, let us know so we can update our system.

“But aside from those circumstances, dog registration is a legal requirement and for more than 590 Noosa dog owners, payment is now well overdue.”

Mr Irwin urged dog owners to take action now.

“Take a moment to renew your dog’s registration or tell us if you’ve moved out of the shire or no longer have your dog. If we don’t hear from you by April 2, you could receive a $333 penalty,” he said.

“This simple step means you won’t get reminder notices for a pet you no longer have. And if your dog does wander off, having your registration and details up to date helps us get them home to you faster.”

He said registration also plays a bigger role in keeping the community safe and promoting responsible dog ownership.

“Registration fees help us patrol neighbourhoods, ensure dog waste bags and off-leash areas are provided where most needed, plus reunite lost dogs with owners, investigate dog attacks and barking issues, and run responsible pet ownership education programs,” he said.

“We have more than 10,000 animals registered each year, and fortunately most dog owners do the right thing, it’s just the small minority whose renewals are many months overdue and who will now risk a fine if they don’t act quickly.”
