A Sunshine Coast couple has pulled off a rare property double, selling their home and securing a new one on the same night during a high-energy auction event.

Kyle and Emily Sunderland achieved the unusual but seamless property transition at the Auctions at Altitude gathering, at Altitude Nine atop the City Hall in Maroochydore, on March 19.

It was one of 22 properties on offer at the event, which was hosted by the Maroochydore and Buderim Ray White offices. More than half of the homes changed hands, for a combined $14 million.

The Sunderlands sold their home on Turnipwood Drive, prior to auction, with multiple offers, for $1.222 million.

Later in the evening, they secured their next family home at 8 Palmyra Crescent, Buderim, purchasing the five-bedroom property under the hammer for $1.6 million in the sale of the night.

Ray White Buderim principal Jake Loiero, who worked closely with the family during the process, described the outcome as exceptional.

“It was the perfect result for Kyle, Emily and their family,” he said.

“It is a fantastic example of what’s possible when the right strategy, preparation, and timing all align.

“We see many families struggle with the uncertainty of selling first and then finding their next home.

“To be able to facilitate both transactions seamlessly on the same night for the Sunderlands is incredibly rewarding, not just for them, but for our entire team.”

There was an immediate 55 per cent clearance rate at the event, with a handful of properties in advanced negotiations within 24 hours post-event.

The function attracted a crowd of more than 170 attendees, alongside more than 50 registered bidders competing across the portfolio, resulting in more than $14 million worth of real estate transacted on the night.

Many of the auctions proved hotly contested, with a number of properties attracting five or more registered bidders, highlighting the competitive nature of the current marketplace.

More than half of the properties were sold at the Auctions at Altitude event.

Ray White Maroochydore and Buderim director Dan Sowden said buyer engagement remained resilient recent market commentary around rising interest rates and increasing fuel costs.

“There has been a lot of noise in the market in recent weeks in relation to interest rates increasing and the price of fuel rising, and in some cases this has caused certain buyers to pause,” he said.

“What was particularly interesting, however, was the depth of the buyer market on the Sunshine Coast.

“As one buyer stepped back, another entered the negotiation. That depth continues to underpin the strength of our local market.”
