Plans for a high-end pet resort featuring a pool, air-conditioning and lounge have been submitted for council approval.

To be known as the Furmont Country Club, the resort would be established on a 10.47-hectare property at 30 Macdonald Road, Palmwoods.

A town planning report prepared by Locality Planning and Consulting on behalf of property owner and applicant Aaron Liddelow says the facility would offer premium short-term accommodation for dogs and cats.

“Furmont Country Club will be the business that will operate as the pet resort and will try and meet part of the huge demand for pet accommodation options for the Sunshine Coast region, particularly for high-end accommodation and care,” it says.

“It must be noted that the proposal is not similar to a typical kennel form of pet accommodation, as the proposal envisages high-end facilities and features to cater for every need and comfort of the pets.”

Plans outline the construction of three “upmarket barn-style” structures for dogs and three cat buildings that will be “similar to a shed/dwelling”.

“Each building (excluding the cattery) will include a fenced-off separate outdoor area for the movement to utilise during the day to allow for their required daily exercise,” it states.

Additional amenities will include a large fenced run yard, fenced “walk in, walk out” pool and large fenced astro play zone, plus reverse-cycle air-conditioning, ceiling fans, air purifier, insulation, lounge room area and TV and video surveillance.

Existing infrastructure on the property would also be utilised, with an existing house to be utilised by the owners of the resort and an old shed to be repurposed as an office.

The resort would operate between 7.30am and 5pm, with customer pick-up and drop-off times from 7.30am to 9am and 3.30pm to 5pm respectively.

Outdoor play time for dogs would only be restricted to between 7.30am and 5pm, with a maximum of 10 dogs in the outdoor play area at once.

“The maximum number of dogs to be kept in boarding/day care is proposed to be 30, where groupings of 10 dogs will be rotating into the play area whilst the remainder are held in the boarding chalets,” the report says.

Water for cleaning and drinking purposes would be supplied via collection and storage of stormwater within an existing dam and rainwater tanks.

“The proposal reflects a land use in character for the Palmwoods area and will not diminish the rural amenity of surrounding properties,” the report says.

“The subject site’s location, size and shape would be considered well suited to the proposal.”

The material change of use application was submitted to Sunshine Coast Council on February 9 and is subject to impact assessment.
