Police have wrapped up their investigation into the assault of a man on the Sunshine Coast, after a public appeal led them to a teenager.

A man in his 60s was walking along Mooloolaba Esplanade at Mooloolaba on December 20, at about 10.30pm, when he was approached by a group of males, one of which allegedly assaulted him.

He sustained non-life-threatening head injuries.

Following a public appeal, a 15-year-old Buderim boy was identified.

After further investigations, he has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.

Police thanked the public for their assistance.
