Additional crossing supervisors are helping students get to school safely on the Sunshine Coast.

Member for Caloundra Kendall Morton welcomed crossing personnel at four schools in her area and said they play an essential role in keeping communities safe.

“New crossing supervisors for Caloundra State School, Golden Beach State School, Our Lady of the Rosary and Unity College is a great outcome for local families,” she said.

A Department of Transport and Main Roads spokesperson said the four Caloundra schools have benefited from dual crossing upgrades.

“Additional supervisors were last year appointed at Caloundra State School (George Street), Unity College (Lomond Crescent) and Golden Beach State School (Westminster Terrace),” they told Sunshine Coast News.

“The crossing at Our Lady of the Rosary on Alfred Street is a new constructed school crossing. The upgraded infrastructure at Our Lady of the Rosary includes an accessible disability ramp, kerb extensions and new crossing‑ahead signage, improving safety and ease of movement for all pedestrians.

“These enhancements improve visibility for drivers and children and support safer access during peak school times.”

Almost 40 supervisors are being assigned to 33 schools around Queensland in 2025-26, through an expanded School Crossing Supervisor Scheme, along with new or upgrades crossings. Woodford State School and Elimbah State School, just outside the Sunshine Coast local government area, are among those to benefit.

Since July, two new crossings have opened and 20 existing crossings have been upgraded to dual crossings around the state. More sites are under construction and will open from Term 2.
