A crime scene has been established after a house fire in a beachside community on the Sunshine Coast.

The Queensland Police Service told Sunshine Coast News that police were investigating after a fire occurred at a home in Peregian Beach last night.

“Around 10.53pm, police and emergency services were called to the Ibis Street two-storey residence after a fire began in the lower part of the house,” a spokesperson said.

“The occupants of the residence safely evacuated and were treated for shock and smoke inhalation.

“A crime scene has been declared while police investigate the cause of the fire. Investigations remain ongoing.”

A Queensland Fire Department spokesperson said the place was ablaze when fire trucks arrived.

“We had seven crews there. It was a house that was well involved. Everyone was accounted for and no injuries reported.

“We had crews on both storeys of the house, working to put out the blaze. They put it out at 2am. It looks like there was a fair amount of structural damage to the house.

“Fire investigators were out there (on Thursday).”
