A fast food giant has opened a new outlet along a busy stretch of the Bruce Highway, and provided almost 50 jobs.

KFC opened its latest Sunshine Coast eatery at the Johnston Road intersection at the Glass House Mountains just before Christmas.

It’s at a new $24 million service station precinct that essentially replaces one of the iconic stopovers formerly known as Moby Vic’s.

About 160,000 vehicles travel along the northbound stretch of highway every day.

KFC described the outlet as “state-of-the-art”, and a spokesperson said it was well located for commuters and for residents in the area.

“The KFC Glasshouse Mountains North team is delighted to welcome local KFC fans who can now get their hands on our delicious Kentucky Fried Chicken,” they said.

“For locals who want to get a taste of KFC from the comfort of their home, delivery will also be available.”

The spokesperson said KFC was “thrilled” to welcome 47 new team members.

“We’re passionate about building a strong and confident team to ensure we provide both the best customer service possible and quality Kentucky Fried Chicken to the people of the Glass House Mountains,” they said.

“Our culture fosters the growth and development of our people by providing opportunities that help them gain lifelong skills, confidence and friends. We’re looking forward to watching our new team members reach their potential.”

KFC stated that team members have been engaged in a training system that caters to every level within the business, and they were paired with a ‘team coach’.

The employees are offered opportunities to take on registered traineeships and undertake a KFC-specific Diploma of Leadership and Management curriculum.

Locals were delighted to see the restaurant open.

“Awesome new store, amazing staff,” Sara Templeton said on the Landsborough Community Facebook page.

“Super,” Sue McDermott added.

The Glasshouse Mountains North eatery is the 10th KFC restaurant on the Sunshine Coast.

Others are at Noosaville, Buderim, Maroochydore, Nambour, Kawana, Sippy Downs, Wurtulla, Caloundra and Aura.
