A teenager is set to face court after she was charged with allegedly spitting at a police officer at a tourist hotspot on New Year’s Eve.
A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said the girl was expected to appear in Maroochydore Children’s Court on Thursday, January 7.
She was charged with two offences after the alleged incident at Noosa Heads.
“A 16-year-old girl has been charged with one count each of obstruct police and serious assault police officer by spitting, following the alleged incident about 8.30pm on Wednesday, December 31,” they said.
Police explained to Sunshine Coast News that a relatively small number of people were charged for offences along the Sunshine Coast.
“Seven people were charged with obstruct police, five people charged for possessing drugs, two were charged for other drug offences, two for public nuisance and two for traffic offences,” they said.
Revellers were generally well behaved at New Year’s Eve celebrations at Noosa Heads, Coolum Beach, Mooloolaba and Caloundra.
Thousands of people attended evening and midnight fireworks.
Due to construction works from a foreshore revitalisation project, fireworks displays at Mooloolaba were launched from an offshore barge in front of the HMAS Brisbane Lookout.
