A woman has died following an alleged hit and run in Maroochydore on Saturday night.
About 11.55pm, police and emergency services were called to Aerodrome Road, near the intersection of Fourth Avenue, following reports a white Toyota Yaris had struck a group of eight pedestrians.
The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 38-year-old Maroochydore man, allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle following the crash.
He was located by police at an Alexandra Parade address a short time later and taken into custody.
One of the pedestrians, a 24-year-old woman from New South Wales, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.
The woman sadly died last night.
Three other pedestrians, including two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
On Sunday police charged a 38-year-old man, reportedly from Brazil, with eight counts of attempted murder.
He was remanded in custody and is expected to reappear before Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday.
Investigations remain ongoing.
Anyone with information that could assist ongoing investigations is urged to contact police.
