A man is in custody following a serious alleged hit and run in Maroochydore last night.

Police and emergency services were called to Aerodrome Road, near the intersection of Fourth Avenue, about 11.55pm following reports a white Toyota Yaris had struck a group of eight pedestrians.

The driver and sole occupant of the Toyota, a 38-year-old Maroochydore man, allegedly fled the scene in his vehicle following the crash.

He was located by police at a nearby address a short time later and taken into custody.

One of the pedestrians, a 23-year-old woman from New South Wales, sustained life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital in a critical condition.

Three other pedestrians, including two 18-year-old men and a 19-year-old man, were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a serious condition.

Investigations remain ongoing. Anyone with information that could assist is urged to contact police.
