A Sunshine Coast woman has died after an e-scooter crash on Sunday, prompting a warning from police about the dangers of the devices.
Emergency services were called about 12.30pm on Sunday to Beerburrum Street, Aroona, following reports a 33-year-old Wurtulla woman on an e-scooter had crashed.
She was transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with life-threatening injuries but has since sadly passed away.
Sunshine Coast South Patrol Group Acting Inspector Brendan Davis said there had been too many injuries and deaths as a result of personal mobility devices (PMDs) across the Sunshine Coast in the past few months.
“This is the second person to lose their life as a result of an e-bike or e-scooter accident so far this year,” Acting Inspector Davis said.
“Coming into the Christmas school holidays there will be even more people who will be out and about on PMDs.
“This incident is a timely remind of what can go horribly wrong in a matter of seconds.
“Remember, if you are going to ride one of these devices to always wear a helmet, abide by the road rules and be aware of your surroundings.”
Police are appealing to anyone with relevant information, CCTV or dashcam vision of the incident to come forward.
