Multiple paramedics have responded to a traffic incident on the Sunshine Motorway this morning that has caused delays.

The incident occurred in the westbound lanes of the motorway near Sippy Downs Drive/Tanawha Tourist Drive at Tanawha.

A Queensland Police spokesperson said emergency services were called about 8.25am following reports of an injured man on the road.

The motorway was closed westbound while investigations continue, however, was expected to open later this morning.

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said a patient was assessed with life-threatening injuries.

Motorists were told to avoid the area and expect significant delays.
