Two Sunshine Coast colleges have been recognised for excellence in student learning, wellbeing and innovation.

Matthew Flinders Anglican College at Buderim and St Andrew’s Anglican College at Peregian Springs were among 34 schools nationwide to be included in the inaugural 5-Star Best Schools list, announced by magazine and news website The Educator.

MFAC principal Michelle Carroll was delighted for the school.

“Our award puts Flinders in good company with Australia’s most outstanding education communities – those that go the extra mile to deliver truly exceptional educational experiences,” she said.

“At Flinders, we are determined to provide an education not only for learning but also for life. As a community of teachers, staff, parents, volunteers and friends, we support our students to grow to be people of strong mind and good heart, with the skills, character and desire to make a positive impact in the world.”

Matthew Flinders Anglican College is one of two Sunshine Coast schools to be recognised.

The Educator managing editor for special reports Chris Sweeney was full of praise for the school.

“Matthew Flinders Anglican College fully merits their 5-Star recognition for exemplifying educational excellence,” he said.

“Their forward-thinking approach and dedication to comprehensive student growth are evident through innovative extracurricular offerings, advanced technology integration and a strong focus on wellbeing initiatives.”

St Andrew’s principal Karen Gorrie was delighted with her school’s recognition.

“This award acknowledges our mission to equip students with more than academic skills, but also the values, character and confidence to navigate an ever-changing world,” she said via the school’s website.

“We’re incredibly proud of the culture we’ve established here at the college – where our students are challenged to grow and supported to thrive.

“At St Andrew’s, we believe in building not just great students, but great people. This recognition affirms our belief in doing things differently and doing them with purpose.”

St Andrew’s was awarded Secondary School of the Year by The Educator last year.

St Andrew’s Anglican College has received another accolade.

The 5-Star Best Schools report spotlighted Australia’s most forward-thinking and impactful schools: those that redefined excellence in education. The initiative celebrated schools that demonstrated outstanding performance and innovation across multiple dimensions of student learning and wellbeing.

The Educator’s 30-plus strong intelligence unit compiled the winners’ list after the completion of a three-month process, canvassing the opinions of objective industry experts and collating leading-edge research.
