A man has been airlifted to hospital after suffering serious injuries from a boat propeller.

The man, in his 70s, was flown to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition after the incident at Rainbow Beach.

Emergency services were called to the Carlo Point Boat Ramp at about 8.25am, where the man sustained significant trauma to his arms, pelvis and abdominal area.

Paramedics treated him at the scene before he was flown to hospital by the Sunshine Coast-based LifeFlight aeromedical crew. The crew was able to land at the boat ramp.

The incident unfolded about 3km west of the Rainbow Beach township, at one of the area’s key boating access points, which is popular with both recreational fishers and tour operators.

It’s close to the Rainbow Beach Big 4 Holiday Park and charter boat bases.
