Shoppers at a major supermarket will have a “revolutionary” way to purchase groceries, with the introduction of new high-tech trolleys.

Woolworths is set to introduce the “scan and go” system at a local store this week, following trials of the devices in New South Wales.

In a post to social media, Woolworths announced the trolleys would arrive at the Noosa Civic store on July 10.

The trolleys would allow Everyday Rewards customers to scan and bag items and track spending while shopping.

“You will see our team training over the next week, to be ready to assist our customers with this fantastic new way to shop,” a statement on the Woolworths Noosa Facebook page said.

Woolworths launched the Australian-first digital supermarket trolley in August 2024, trialling the concept in stores across Sydney.

At the time, Woolworths Group’s Faye Ilhan said the trolleys would deliver “value and convenience”.

“The Scan&Go Trolley is a market-leading innovation that will help them both save time and balance the budget on their supermarket shop,” she said.

According to the Woolworths website, customers can unlock a tablet-style device and attach it to their trolley to start shopping.

An in-built scanner allows items to be scanned and packed on the go, before paying at the self-serve checkout on the way out.

The trolley technology was developed in-house by Woolworths Group’s digital teams and follows on from the Scan&Go app, which was first introduced in 2018.

The Noosa Civic location is understood to be the third store in Queensland to offer the high-tech trolleys, following North Lakes and Warner.

Sunshine Coast News has contacted Woolworths but the company could not confirm or provide further details on the arrival of the trolleys to the Noosa Civic store.
