A three-level community space in the heart of a Sunshine Coast town is closer to completion.

The Library+ at Caloundra project – designed for learning, creativity and connection – is expected to open later this year.

Sunshine Coast councillor Terry Landsberg said the precinct on Omrah Avenue will have inclusive, sustainable and forward-thinking community spaces, along with integrated functions with council’s customer contact and corporate offices.

“As we move closer to the opening, we look forward to delivering a place that will inspire and bring together people of all ages,” he said.

“In the past year the construction team, Hutchinson Builders, has achieved remarkable progress.

“The main structure is completed, creating a strong and modern building. The ground floor foyer has been opened up and prepared to accommodate the new tiered seating area that will bring people together.”

Cr Landsberg said new energy-efficient components including a new roof, glazing, insulation and solar panels, as well as essential water, cooling, heating and electrical systems, had been installed.

“The building’s exterior, including new windows and a covered entrance, is taking shape, while the interior is being finished with walls, soundproofing, painting and custom cabinetry to create a functional and appealingly space.

“In the coming months, the focus will be on completing the interior finishes and outdoor areas, which include a spacious covered area for events and an enhanced Bill Venardos Park with new landscaping.

“The final touches will include new floors and ceilings, as well as the installation of the tiered seating designed for comfort and community use.”

The precinct was earmarked for $27.2 million in funding in the council’s 2024-25 budget.

As construction wraps up, attention will shift to furnishing and equipping the library.

Once the building is ready, it will be tested and commissioned.
