A man has been taken to hospital under lights and sirens after a serious vehicle and cyclist incident on the Sunshine Coast.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said that the 40-year-old was rushed to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in a life-threatening condition after the incident along Maroochydore Road on Saturday, at about 2.46pm.

He was in a critical condition late Saturday night.

The incident followed a significant crash on the Bruce Highway on Friday night.

On that occasion, paramedics assessed three people at the scene of a three-vehicle crash southbound at Tanawha at 8.46pm.

The QAS stated that one female did not require treatment or transport to hospital, while two women were transported to Sunshine Coast University Hospital in stable conditions.

Traffic was queued for some time.
