Police have revoked an emergency declaration along a section of the Bruce Highway.

Police had set up an exclusion zone under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA) after reports of gunfire at Coles Creek on Friday.

But the department stated, at 2.08pm, that “there is no ongoing threat to the public”.

Police were called, just after 12.15pm, to reports that shots were fired towards the Bruce Highway, adjacent to Maher Road.

An exclusion zone was established while police responded. The area encompassed Maher Road and both directions of the highway adjacent to Maher Road.

Local residents within the exclusion zone were asked to stay indoors and members of the public and motorists were urged to avoid the area.

There was an exclusion zone at Coles Creek.

But police later stated that investigations showed that two people were target shooting on private property on Maher Road, however impacted members of the public nearby resulting in police being called.

No one was injured. Investigations are ongoing. A man and woman are assisting police with their inquiries.
