A girl in her early teens has been taken to hospital after a significant fall from a bicycle on the Sunshine Coast.

The incident occurred at Alexandra Headland on Thursday, at about 4.34pm.

The Queensland Ambulance Service said she was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital with life-threatening head injuries.

Critical care paramedics were with her during transport.

The fall happened along Tantula Road West, which includes some relatively steep sections.
