Lane changes are set for a busy thoroughfare that connects to a fast-growing residential area after a local councillor called out “people driving like tools”.
It follows a series of community complaints to Sunshine Coast Council about “dangerous driver behaviour” and speeding through a school zone.
As a result, painted chevrons and merging signals will be placed along an eastbound section of Peter Crosby Way at Palmview.
Currently there is a dual-lane section of the road, which connects to the Harmony estate, near the intersection of Village Green Boulevard and the Palmview school precinct.

However, Division 6 councillor Christian Dickson said drivers were using it to dangerously “undertake” and “hook through”, calling out the behaviour through a Facebook post.
“Council will be blocking off part of the left lane on Peter Crosby Way where people act like idiots and speed through the school zone,” he said in the post.

“I have lost count on the number of times people undertake on the left lane near the traffic lights and hook through driving like tools.
“Thank you to locals who have raised this with council.”
In further comment provided to Sunshine Coast News, Cr Dickson said it was a regular occurrence that was made even more dangerous with school children crossing in the area.
“I have been pushing this issue through resident complaints about people doing higher-speed undertaking manoeuvres through the school zone and traffic lights at Peter Crosby Way,” he said.
“The need for the second lane isn’t required and just encourages bad driver behaviour, especially in the school zone.”
Addressing why the section of road has two lanes, Cr Dickson said via a comment on his Facebook post that the infrastructure allowed for future development and intersection upgrades.
However, he described the lane as “pointless” at this moment in time.
“The roadway there will change in the future when these areas are built. This means different intersections/lights,” he said.
“Dual carriageway along Peter Crosby Way to Claymore Road is really pointless. It’s a race to a single lane road up the motorway.”
Chevrons are already in place along part of the westbound section of road near the Village Green Boulevard intersection.
Sunshine Coast Council is yet to confirm with Sunshine Coast News when the works will begin.
