A man has been taken to hospital in a potentially life-threatening condition after an incident in the surf at Alexandra Headland this morning.

The Queensland Ambulance Service reported that the man was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital following a post-immersion incident on Alexandra Parade at 11.18am.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson said a 50-year-old man had been rescued and was in the hands of paramedics.

The spokesperson said a second incident involving a mass rescue had also occurred today. A 15-year-old girl was with paramedics and was also expected to be taken to hospital.

Beachgoers have been urged to be cautious if visiting the beach or remote coastal areas over the ANZAC Day long weekend.

SLSQ lifesaving services manager Natalie Edwards said it was important to listen to the advice of lifesavers and lifeguards and stay aware of the conditions.

“With weather conditions this weekend set to be changeable, we want to remind locals and visitors that conditions and swells can change quickly, so it is important to only swim between the red and yellow flags,” she said.

“Please make sure that you keep your children within an arm’s length, swim between the flags and remain cautious and only enter the water when it is safe.”

During the Easter long weekend, 75 per cent of the rescues were performed outside of the patrol areas, with many children found in dangerous situations.
