A Sunshine Coast man will receive $20,000 a month for the next 20 years, attributing his lotto win to his unique method of picking numbers.

The Pomona man held the only Division 1-winning entry nationally in Set for Life draw 3490, drawn on Monday.

He will receive a total prize of $4.8 million, paid in monthly instalments.

The winner said he initially dodged calls from officials from The Lott but answered the third time.

“When you rang twice I thought it was odd, but then I got a call for the third time and thought I better just answer,” he said.

“It’s a miracle. I’m mind blown.”

The man explained how he picked his winning numbers, which were 36, 37, 25, 10, 32, 15 and 1, with the supplementary numbers 27 and 2.

“Believe it or not, I chose my numbers by writing them all down and putting them in a hat. Then I just picked them out and I’ve used them ever since,” he said.

“It’s crazy I know. I’ve used those same numbers for years now.

“I can’t wait to call my wife. There’s no way she’ll believe me.

His five-game entry was purchased on The Lott website.
