Police have released images of a man who may be able to assist officers with the investigation into an alleged assault.

Initial investigations indicate that an 83-year-old man exited a shopping centre on Point Cartwright Drive at Buddina at about 5pm on Thursday January 23, when an altercation occurred with a man not known to him.

Emergency services were called and the elderly man was taken to Sunshine Coast University Hospital for assessment.

Anyone who recognises the man, or who has information that can assist investigators, is asked to contact police.
