Police will prepare a report for the coroner following the death of a man at one of the Sunshine Coast’s main beaches this morning.

Police were called to Mooloolaba Beach at about 7.10am after an 88-year-old man was pulled unconscious from the ocean by lifeguards.

Attempts were made to revive the man but he was declared dead at the scene.

The incident is being treated as non-suspicious.

A Surf Life Saving Queensland spokesperson told Sunshine Coast News the man suffered a medical incident while swimming with a group of friends.

Off-duty lifeguards were on the beach and attempted to resuscitate the man but were unsuccessful.

The surf was relatively calm.
