The Sunshine Coast is set to get its own music awards.

Independent industry body the Sunshine Coast Music Industry Collective (SCMIC), which is dedicated to supporting and championing the local industry, this week launched the inaugural Sunshine Coast Music Awards.

They will celebrate the artists, songwriters, venues, recording studios, punters and everyone else who contributes to the vibrant music scene across the Sunshine Coast.

The event will be held on June 1, 2025, at Your Mates Brewing in Warana.

SCMIC chairperson Melissa O’Bryan, who is the entertainment manager for Maroochydore’s Solbar, said she was excited to launch the awards.

“I’ve been working with local music for nearly a decade,” she said.

“The talent the Sunshine Coast boasts couldn’t be more worthy of their own awards night.”

The awards were launched at Solbar on Tuesday night with live performances from Ayla and Nana’s Pie.

The region punches above its weight when it comes to music, with a 2022 study finding that one in 41 residents are musicians, meaning the Coast has one of the highest densities of working musicians in any region in Australia.

The SCMIC has also announced its inaugural AGM will be held on January 16.
