A central Sunshine Coast park is in line for a significant upgrade, with a draft landscape plan showing it could have an array of new and improved elements.

Sunshine Coast Council is now seeking community input on the plan for Khancoban Drive Park at Buderim.

Councillor Christian Dickson said the park could be elevated from a local level park to a district level park, which would serve a wider area within Buderim and Mountain Creek.

“The final landscape plan will outline how additional facilities such as public amenities, outdoor leisure activities and a fenced dog off leash area could be incorporated into the park,” he said.

“Subject to future funding we are aiming to provide a district level parkland for our community to meet and enjoy outdoor activities together.

“Locals have been telling me they want to see a high-quality park with things families can enjoy close to home, without having to travel outside of their own community.”

The park is located north of Karawatha Drive, between Khancoban Drive and Jingellic Drive.

Last year, council consulted the community about a potential off-leash dog exercise area in the park.

The area identified in the plan was the community’s preferred choice.

In May, council asked locals what they like about Khancoban Drive Park and what could be improved.

The community wanted an upgraded playground for all ages, shade sails for the playground and more shade trees, pathways, barbecue and picnic tables, sports facilities, fitness equipment and a fenced dog exercise area.

Park users also raised concerns about the drainage issues and wet areas at the park and council has investigated possible solutions to minimise the risk.

The community engagement findings can be viewed here.

Council has invited residents to review the plan and provide feedback by completing a short online survey via Have Your Say.  The survey closes Friday, December 13, at 5pm.

“This is how we are working with our community to nurture and enhance our environment and quality of life, and I’m looking forward to hearing your feedback on the draft landscape plan,” Cr Dickson said.

The final landscape plan will be presented to the community in February. Following finalisation of the plan and consideration of viable funding and staging options, council will start detailed design for Stage 1 of the park upgrades. All construction works will be subject to budget.
