Stage one of the renovation of Eumundi’s Imperial Hotel, under the ownership of the Comiskey family, is complete.

The Comiskeys welcomed family, friends, business associates and the community to celebrate the completion of the newly renovated space on September 21.

An elegant front bar, a gaming room tripled in size and TAB, completed in collaboration with KP Architects and interior design studio CTRL Space, are now open to the public.

Stage two – conversion of “The Bunker” into what is being billed as the largest kids’ room on the Sunshine Coast, plus a new restaurant, beer garden, bar and band room – will start next.

The hotel, established in 1911 and rebuilt in 1926 after a fire, has had various owners and gone through other transformations over the years.

It was bought late last year by the Comiskey Group, which also owns The Doonan, the Sandstone Point Hotel, the Sandstone Point Big 4 Holiday Park and the Eatons Hill Hotel.

The Imperial Hotel’s stage one opening has showcased the Comiskey Group’s design direction, blending traditional pub aesthetics with a unique twist.

Features including vintage wooden windows flood front bar with natural light, cozy timber paneling, pressed metal ceiling, striking brass-finished sputnik chandeliers, tartan carpet honouring the hotel’s heritage, and historic photos of Eumundi on the walls.

Director David Comiskey, who oversees construction of the Comiskey Group’s projects. undertook the tapping of a ceremonial wooden keg at the stage one opening party.

“Our construction team gave it their all. They’re the best in the business and we appreciate all their efforts,” he said.

“We briefly put our tools down to enjoy a Eumundi Lager in the new front bar together, but we’re now back to work on the rest of the hotel.

“We have more than double the work ahead of us and we estimate another six months to complete the extensive renovation.

“It’s a challenge but we are excited to take it on. There’s nothing more rewarding than seeing the results of our hard work, and after such positive feedback from the community regarding stage one, we are more motivated than ever to give it our all.”

Director Rob Comiskey said he was excited to celebrate the hotel’s rich history throughout the renovation.

“From the very start, the brief remained the same. We wanted to celebrate the history of the pub,” he said.

“The Imperial Hotel is over 100 years old, and that is, and always will be, the most unique part about it. It has changed owners throughout the years and has been reimagined numerous times.

“But one thing has remained the same – it’s been a local favourite watering hole. As the new custodians of this incredible property, we want to keep it that way.

“We have put a lot of effort into the renovation and have plenty more to go. We are very much looking forward to seeing the community enjoy the space.”

The Comiskey Group estimates that the Imperial Hotel’s renovation will be completed in March.
