Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Nambour early this morning.

Emergency services attended the building, on Howard Street, where the house and a car were well ablaze, and a streetside power pole had fallen over.

The home, next to Tyrepower and across the road from Aldi and Fruity Life, ultimately collapsed.

It’s not yet clear if anyone was in the house.

A Queensland Police Service spokesperson said police were examining the incident.

“Police are investigating a suspicious house fire in Nambour this morning,” they said.

“Emergency services were called, around 5.20am, to reports of a two-storey house fully engulfed in fire.

“The fire has been extinguished and a crime scene has been declared.

“Emergency services are yet to confirm if anyone was in the house at the time.

“Police are appealing to anyone with information or was there at the time to contact police, particularly anyone who has CCTV footage of the area at the time.”

A fire investigator is expected to attend the site, to sort through the rubble to determine the cause of the fire.

When asked whether the house was occupied by squatters and whether they had escaped the building in time, police said it will form part of the investigation and police are continuing to appeal for information.

Five crews from the Queensland Fire Department were on the site, and spent much of the morning countering hotspots.

Two Queensland Ambulance Service crews attended but were not required. Energex isolated power to the building.
