A grocery store in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is being expanded to cater for increased demand.

The IGA on Jones Street in Mooloolah will have significantly more floor space and extra car parks.

The project has already started and should be completed by the end of the year.

The floor area will be increased from 911sqm to 1522sqm, and there will be room for an additional 70 cars.

White’s IGA co-founder Roz White said the expansion would accommodate the needs of the people from the town and its surrounds.

“We are delighted that this renovation to our beautiful Mooloolah store will allow us to expand the range of products we can offer to the Mooloolah community,” she said.

The supermarket is one of the oldest of six owned by Roz and Michael White.

“It is important to both Michael and I that we can provide greater choice and a variety of shopping options in an upgraded and modernised store,” Ms White said.

“As always, we will have a key focus on our locavore suppliers and broaden our range of everyday goods at great prices.

“This enhanced offering will be of benefit to the whole community.”

Roz and Michael White, from White’s IGAs, are big supporters of local producers, suppliers and workers.

Working alongside developer Primo Property, the White’s Group will undertake a full interior and exterior refurbishment of the building.

Primo Property development manager Christopher Ferraro said he was delighted the company was involved in the project.

“This store is essential to the local community and, of course, our community is important to us, which is why we are committed to ensuring that we deliver something together that will further enhance the vibrancy of the community,” he said.

“While the construction phase of the project will be a significant driver of local employment, the long-term operation of this store ensures there will be jobs for locals into the future and that is important.

“At the heart of this town is the community, so doing what we can to keep everything local is a key driver for us.

“We will work hard to ensure all trades working on the project are from the Sunshine Coast region and this includes everything from block layers, concreters, roofers, air conditioning services, steel fabrication to plumbers.

“It really is a local project, for the local people, by the local people, and that makes us incredibly proud.”
