A husband and wife celebrating their wedding anniversary on the Sunshine Coast have marked the occasion in style, with a multimillion-dollar win.

The pair of Gold Coast sweethearts scored a $2.6 million payout from Keno draw 490, purchasing the ticket at Mooloolaba Surf Life Saving Club on Friday.

The husband said he felt “numb”.

“I can’t believe it,” he said. “It’s so exciting. We’re in shock.”

“I didn’t fathom the win until I had called into the Keno contact centre on Friday (and then) it all started to hit me.

A couple’s annual getaway to the Sunshine Coast was better than ever.

“My wife and I have a routine of coming up to Mooloolaba every year and we always play a game of Keno at the local club.

“We’ve been playing the same numbers for 10 years.

“We were having a lovely dinner and celebrating our wedding anniversary over the sunset when our lucky numbers went off. We immediately went numb.

“We’ve shared the news with some immediate family members and some close friends: they were numb too.

“We honestly don’t know what to do with the prize as of yet, but it will go to good use.

“It’s a big gift for sure.”

The winning couple purchased their Keno Classic entry at the surf club on the Esplanade at Mooloolaba.

A Keno draw occurs about every three minutes. During each draw, 20 numbers are drawn from 1 to 80. Players simply match the numbers on their entry to the numbers drawn for a chance to win.
