While the process to secure a construction contractor for the Mooloolaba foreshore transformation continues, Sunshine Coast Council is seeking expressions of interest from people who want to be part of two groups that will advise on the project.

A Mooloolaba Business Activation Group and Mooloolaba Stakeholder Interest Group will be set up and include community representatives, local businesses and sporting members.

The two groups will bring together interested parties to share information, insights and ideas aimed at making the construction phase as smooth as possible for businesses, locals and visitors.

Planning is progressing for Stage 2 of the seaside favourite’s revitalisation, with construction anticipated to begin mid-2024.

This includes a showpiece Central Meeting Place, flowing viewing decks, picnic areas, expansive landscaping, new public amenities including toilets and beach showers, new terraced seawall and broad, accessible coastal pathway.

Sunshine Coast Council Environment and Liveability Portfolio Councillor Peter Cox urged anyone with a passion for Mooloolaba and its future to consider nominating.

“Throughout the planning for the project, council has been actively meeting and speaking with key stakeholders, including business groups, community members and local sporting groups,” he said.

“These new reference groups are another way we are continuing to engage and support our community.

“The two groups will become a forum that will work with council to help support businesses and the community before, during and after the construction phase.

“Information received will enhance communication, relationships and information-sharing for the future benefit of the Mooloolaba precinct.

“It also ensures the groups are relaying key information back to their communities in ‘real time’, instead of hearing it from another source.”

Individuals representing community, businesses and sporting interests are encouraged to view the terms of reference and apply before February 13 by visiting the website.

Mooloolaba Foreshore Revitalisation Stage 2 follows the award-winning first stage, the Northern Parkland, which has been enjoyed by thousands since opening in June 2022.

It includes one hectare of revitalised parkland incorporating a raised accessible boardwalk, viewing areas, state-of-the-art playground, renewed seawall, accessible coastal pathways, public amenities, undercover barbecue areas, seating and landscaping.
