An experienced businessman is vowing to bring a fresh perspective and resolve outstanding tasks, if elected as Noosa mayor.

John Morrall said he has “a vision for a prosperous and inclusive future”, and that he “is ready to bring positive change” to the area.

Mr Morrall, who has lived in the region for 25 years, said he recognised the challenges and opportunities that the community faces and is ready to lead with innovative solutions and fresh ideas.

He said he aimed to follow up on all outstanding works and projects.

“Everything is still on the table and needs to be resolved with fresh new eyes,” he said.

“It will be about strong resolutions of these projects with action, not words.”

Mr Morrall has a wealth of business experience in hospitality, retail and fitness sectors.

He was part of the management team of one of the biggest live band venues in Victoria in the early 1980s, showcasing some of Australia’s best talent including the likes of John Farnham, Midnight Oil, Dragon and the Angels.

But, after having a knife held to his throat, he decided to change industries.

He moved into the retail sector, which led him to oversee 26 music and electrical stores for Brashs Music in Queensland.

Mr Morrall said people should not underestimate his abilities.

“In business you must be results- and profit-based,” he said.

“Problem-solving and forecasting are crucial, otherwise it is your job or your business that fails.”

He said he had a proven track record of success with high-profile, high-volume businesses at Noosa (Harvey Norman Noosa and Jetts Fitness Noosa) and he believes he is well equipped to tackle the issues affecting the community.

Mr Morrall described himself as a leader, not a politician, who is passionate about the region. He said he was committed to finding pathways to help economic growth, job creation, affordable housing, housing for the employed, infrastructure, roads, parks, beaches, transport and rivers and waterways.

Mr Morrall said he was also committed to fostering an environment that attracts new businesses, encourages entrepreneurship and creates sustainable job opportunities for all residents, focusing on sustainable development practices to protect the environment.

He also said the council should be transparent and provide accountability, with open communication with the community.

Mr Morrall said he would bring a leadership style rooted in collaboration, inclusivity and a commitment to listening to residents.

“Together, we can build a town that we are all proud to call home,“ he said.
