Sunshine Coast tourism operators have claimed major accolades as the region continues to prove its status as a premier destination.

Creative Tours and Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat claimed gold awards at the Queensland Tourism Awards at Cairns on Friday night, when other local operators also snared silver and bronze awards.

Queensland Tourism Industry Council chief executive officer Brett Fraser said an increase in flights and record-breaking number of passengers (1.62 million during last financial year) was testament to the appeal of the region.

“It’s no secret the region had seen a tourism boom led by leisure and supported by growing access via new airlines and flight paths,” he said.

“According to Tourism Research Australia, the Sunshine Coast is now the number one destination in Queensland for holiday visitors.

“The Sunshine Coast is not just a location, but an experience.

“Local businesses have shown exceptional strength and innovation, contributing to the region’s status as a premier tourist destination, and it’s incredible to see a select group recognised for their efforts and contribution.

Creative Tours claimed two major gongs at the state tourism awards.

“But this growth is not just about numbers, it’s about connecting people to the beautiful region and enhancing their travel experiences, which is what these tourism operators are focused on.

“As the Sunshine Coast continues to welcome more visitors, they will look forward to providing people with the opportunity to travel and experience everything the wonderful region has to offer.”

Creative Tours provides tours focusing on local foods and produce, while Narrows Escape Rainforest Retreat boasts eight exclusive and secluded villas.

There were 31 award categories ranging from attractions, events, tour and transport operators, accommodation, restaurants, culture and marketing.
