The past week on the Sunshine Coast has seen some ordinary days on the water due to persistent winds. Unfortunately, the forecast for the next week suggests much of the same, with winds continuing to play havoc with fishing plans.

Sunday’s full moon and the resulting higher tides should make for some good catches if you can manage to find a spot out of the wind.

Our advice? Keep an eye on the daily wind forecasts, find those sheltered spots and remember, patience and persistence is key.

Offshore

Over the past week offshore fishing posed some challenges due to the conditions, yet the Hards continued to be productive with catches of Kingfish, Snapper, Pearl Perch, Tuskfish and Hussar.

North Reef also had a good showing with notable catches of Pearl Perch, Snapper, and Cobia keeping anglers busy.

Freshwater

As water levels in creeks continue to recede, finding Bass and Saratoga has turned into a bit of a challenge for anglers, with these fish taking to the deeper pockets and bends in the waterways for shelter.

Despite this, over the recent weekend, a few persistent fishos managed to reel in some Bass. The successful strategy involved the use of top-water weedless frogs, which are particularly effective along the shaded banks where the water runs deep. This shift in tactics, aligning with the changing water levels, proved fruitful, showcasing the ever-evolving nature of fishing in these waters.

Maroochy River

If you could find a spot out of the wind, the Maroochy River was the spot for Mangrove Jack and Jewfish this week. Bream, Whiting, and Flathead were reported in the lower reaches of the Mooloolah River and Trevally in the canals.

Beach fishos reported a few Dart at Mooloolaba.

Noosa

The Noosa area wasn’t immune from poor weather either, however reports of Sand Whiting at the river mouth, Lake Cooroibah and the Frying Pan kept keen fishos busy.

The Tewantin reach was vibrant with Trevally and Grunter Bream making a strong appearance. Woods Bay continues to be consistent, which catches of Bream and Moses Perch reported. Flathead and Whiting were spotted at the Noosa River mouth, resulting in a few good catches.

Caloundra

Windy conditions also prevailed in Caloundra this week, however small breaks in the weather resulted in good catches.

A rare catch of a sizeable Threadfin Salmon in the passage had anglers excited, with reports of Trevally and small Jewfish also in the passage. School Mackerel coming in on the high tide and getting caught behind the old bar made for some surprise catches from the boardwalk and Coast Guard boat ramp.

The rocky patches off the beaches were home to a number of bottom dwellers, with some small reef fish spotted close to shore.

Tight lines!
